1[The students objected,] "But is it not written, 'From the east, I will bring your seed' (Isaiah 43:5)? The sun rises in the east, and you say that the gem is the day!"[Rabbi Rachumai replied,] "I did not say this, rather, 'It was evening, and it was morning, day' (Genesis 1:5). As it is written, 'In the day, YHVH Elohim made earth and heaven' (Genesis 2:4)."
