Sefer HaBahir 74

1[The students objected,] "But is it not written, '[God] set darkness as His hiding place, His pavilion around Him, darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies' (Psalms 18:12)?"He [Rabbi Rachumai] said to them, "It is written about Him, 'The Heavens will rain down righteousness [צדק]' (Isaiah 45:8). This righteousness is the treat of judgment [דין] of the world, as is said, 'Justice, justice, you will pursue' (Deuteronomy 16:20), and it is written after it, 'In order that you will live and inherit the earth' (Ibid.). If you will judge yourself, you will live. If not, He will judge you and enact [the judgment] against your will."
