1He Himself gives His Name to those, upon whom He bestows His Mercy.

2Very fortunate, O Nanak, are those people. ||8||13||

3Shalok:

4Give up your cleverness, good people - remember the Lord God, your King!

5Enshrine in your heart, your hopes in the One Lord. O Nanak, your pain, doubt and fear shall depart. ||1||

6Ashtapadee:

7Reliance on mortals is in vain - know this well.

8The Great Giver is the One Lord God.

9By His gifts, we are satisfied,

10and we suffer from thirst no longer.

11The One Lord Himself destroys and also preserves.

12Nothing at all is in the hands of mortal beings.

13Understanding His Order, there is peace.

14So take His Name, and wear it as your necklace.

15Remember, remember, remember God in meditation.

16O Nanak, no obstacle shall stand in your way. ||1||

17Praise the Formless Lord in your mind.

18O my mind, make this your true occupation.

19Let your tongue become pure, drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar.

20Your soul shall be forever peaceful.

21With your eyes, see the wondrous play of your Lord and Master.

22In the Company of the Holy, all other associations vanish.

23With your feet, walk in the Way of the Lord.

24Sins are washed away, chanting the Lord's Name, even for a moment.

25So do the Lord's Work, and listen to the Lord's Sermon.

26In the Lord's Court, O Nanak, your face shall be radiant. ||2||

27Very fortunate are those humble beings in this world,

28who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, forever and ever.

29Those who dwell upon the Lord's Name,

30are the most wealthy and prosperous in the world.

31Those who speak of the Supreme Lord in thought, word and deed

32know that they are peaceful and happy, forever and ever.

33One who recognizes the One and only Lord as One,

34understands this world and the next.

35One whose mind accepts the Company of the Naam,

36the Name of the Lord, O Nanak, knows the Immaculate Lord. ||3||

37By Guru's Grace, one understands himself;

38know that then, his thirst is quenched.

39In the Company of the Holy, one chants the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.

40Such a devotee of the Lord is free of all disease.

41Night and day, sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the One Lord.

42In the midst of your household, remain balanced and unattached.

43One who places his hopes in the One Lord

44the noose of Death is cut away from his neck.

45One whose mind hungers for the Supreme Lord God,

46O Nanak, shall not suffer pain. ||4||

47One who focuses his conscious mind on the Lord God

48- that Saint is at peace; he does not waver.

49Those unto whom God has granted His Grace

50who do those servants need to fear?

51As God is, so does He appear;

52in His Own creation, He Himself is pervading.

53Searching, searching, searching, and finally, success!

54By Guru's Grace, the essence of all reality is understood.

55Wherever I look, there I see Him, at the root of all things.

56O Nanak, He is the subtle, and He is also the manifest. ||5||

57Nothing is born, and nothing dies.

58He Himself stages His own drama.

59Coming and going, seen and unseen,

60all the world is obedient to His Will.
