1Some say that they have the arms of their many brothers to protect them.
2Some say that they have great expanses of wealth.
3I am meek; I have the support of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||
4Some dance, wearing ankle bells.
5Some fast and take vows, and wear malas.
6Some apply ceremonial tilak marks to their foreheads.
7I am meek; I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, Har. ||5||
8Some work spells using the miraculous spiritual powers of the Siddhas.
9Some wear various religious robes and establish their authority.
10Some perform Tantric spells, and chant various mantras.
11I am meek; I serve the Lord, Har, Har, Har. ||6||
12One calls himself a wise Pandit, a religious scholar.
13One performs the six rituals to appease Shiva.
14One maintains the rituals of pure lifestyle, and does good deeds.
15I am meek; I seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, Har, Har, Har. ||7||
16I have studied the religions and rituals of all the ages.
17Without the Name, this mind is not awakened.
18Says Nanak, when I found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy,
19my thirsty desires were satisfied, and I was totally cooled and soothed. ||8||1||
20Raamkalee, Fifth Mehla:
21He created you out of this water.
22From clay, He fashioned your body.
23He blessed you with the light of reason and clear consciousness.
24In your mother's womb, He preserved you. ||1||
25Contemplate your Savior Lord.
26Give up all others thoughts, O mind. ||1||Pause||
27He gave you your mother and father;
28he gave you your charming children and siblings;
29he gave you your spouse and friends;
30enshrine that Lord and Master in your consciousness. ||2||
31He gave you the invaluable air;
32He gave you the priceless water;
33He gave you burning fire;
34let your mind remain in the Sanctuary of that Lord and Master. ||3||
35He gave you the thirty-six varieties of tasty foods;
36He gave you a place within to hold them;
37He gave you the earth, and things to use;
38enshrine in your consciousness the feet of that Lord and Master. ||4||
39He gave you eyes to see, and ears to hear;
40He gave you hands to work with, and a nose and a tongue;
41He gave you feet to walk upon, and the crowning glory of your head;
42O mind, worship the Feet of that Lord and Master. ||5||
43He transformed you from impure to pure;
44He installed you above the heads of all creatures;
45now, you may fulfill your destiny or not;
46Your affairs shall be resolved, O mind, meditating on God. ||6||
47Here and there, only the One God exists.
48Wherever I look, there You are.
49My mind is reluctant to serve Him;
50forgetting Him, I cannot survive, even for an instant. ||7||
51I am a sinner, without any virtue at all.
52I do not serve You, or do any good deeds.
53By great good fortune, I have found the boat - the Guru.
54Slave Nanak has crossed over, with Him. ||8||2||

56Some pass their lives enjoying pleasures and beauty.
