1In various costumes, like actors, they appear.

2As it pleases God, they dance.

3Whatever pleases Him, comes to pass.

4O Nanak, there is no other at all. ||7||

5Sometimes, this being attains the Company of the Holy.

6From that place, he does not have to come back again.

7The light of spiritual wisdom dawns within.

8That place does not perish.

9The mind and body are imbued with the Love of the Naam, the Name of the One Lord.

10He dwells forever with the Supreme Lord God.

11As water comes to blend with water,

12his light blends into the Light.

13Reincarnation is ended, and eternal peace is found.

14Nanak is forever a sacrifice to God. ||8||11||

15Shalok:

16The humble beings abide in peace; subduing egotism, they are meek.

17The very proud and arrogant persons, O Nanak, are consumed by their own pride. ||1||

18Ashtapadee:

19One who has the pride of power within,

20shall dwell in hell, and become a dog.

21One who deems himself to have the beauty of youth,

22shall become a maggot in manure.

23One who claims to act virtuously,

24shall live and die, wandering through countless reincarnations.

25One who takes pride in wealth and lands

26is a fool, blind and ignorant.

27One whose heart is mercifully blessed with abiding humility,

28O Nanak, is liberated here, and obtains peace hereafter. ||1||

29One who becomes wealthy and takes pride in it

30not even a piece of straw shall go along with him.

31He may place his hopes on a large army of men,

32but he shall vanish in an instant.

33One who deems himself to be the strongest of all,

34in an instant, shall be reduced to ashes.

35One who thinks of no one else except his own prideful self

36the Righteous Judge of Dharma shall expose his disgrace.

37One who, by Guru's Grace, eliminates his ego,

38O Nanak, becomes acceptable in the Court of the Lord. ||2||

39If someone does millions of good deeds, while acting in ego,

40he shall incur only trouble; all this is in vain.

41If someone performs great penance, while acting in selfishness and conceit,

42he shall be reincarnated into heaven and hell, over and over again.

43He makes all sorts of efforts, but his soul is still not softened

44how can he go to the Court of the Lord?

45One who calls himself good

46goodness shall not draw near him.

47One whose mind is the dust of all

48- says Nanak, his reputation is spotlessly pure. ||3||

49As long as someone thinks that he is the one who acts,

50he shall have no peace.

51As long as this mortal thinks that he is the one who does things,

52he shall wander in reincarnation through the womb.

53As long as he considers one an enemy, and another a friend,

54his mind shall not come to rest.

55As long as he is intoxicated with attachment to Maya,

56the Righteous Judge shall punish him.

57By God's Grace, his bonds are shattered;

58by Guru's Grace, O Nanak, his ego is eliminated. ||4||

59Earning a thousand, he runs after a hundred thousand.
