Sefer HaBahir 16

1Rabbi Rechumai said, "The light preceded the world since 'Cloud and fog surround Him' (Psalm 97:2), as it is said, 'And God said, ‘There will be light,’ and there was light' (Genesis 1:3). They said to Him, ‘Before the formation of Israel, your son, will You make him a crown?’ He responded ‘yes.’ To what parable is this comparable? To a king that yearned for a son and found a beautiful, richly-adorned, and exalted crown and rejoiced greatly. He said, 'This is for my son’s head, as it is beautiful for him!' They said to him, 'And you know that your son is worthy?' He replied 'Silence! Thusly, this arose in my mind, and it is known!' As it is said, 'And He thinks thoughts' (Samuel 2 14:14)."
